2014 – HEART OF AMERICA PATRIOT BENEFIT
On September 11, 2014 our 3rd Annual benefit was hosted at The Nicklaus Golf Club at Lionsgate in Overland Park, KS. Once again our Benefit was a tremendous success. Our presenting sponsor, Securitas Security Services USA welcomed 36 patriotic teams to play in this special event. Our Patriotic Ceremony included several memorable moments with the ceremonial swearing in of new Marine recruits; the playing of Amazing Grace by bagpiper Ian Evans; the poignant keynote speech provided by Major General (Ret.) Greg Gardner where he challenged everyone to “Earn It” as was Private Ryan by the men, who died saving his life; and the ceremonial First Tee Shot made by a WWII, Korean, Viet Nam, and Iraqi Wounded Warrior Veteran. As in 2013, the course was adorned with 350 American flags making it a special place to play. The Kansas National Guard presented our colors and provided a rifle salute battery and playing of Taps to salute our fallen heroes. Our 2014 Benefit raised slightly over $53,000 that allowed us to provide a full, four-year scholarship for a wounded warrior to attend the University of Kansas; to fly 50 WWII veterans to Washington, DC to visit the memorials built in their honor; and to provide a very nice contribution to The Wounded Warrior Project™.
